In late 2017 I saw this snap by US photographer Kate T Parker on Instagram – it was of her daughter Alice wearing a Snow White costume and covered in mud.

It resonated with me because I was just like that as a kid. I was always running around getting dirty or wet or both (sorry about all the laundry Mum). I never wore dresses and I hated the colour pink, but BOY DID I LOVE DISNEY PRINCESSES. I love how this photo captures what it means to just be yourself without labels or expectations.

From the moment I saw it I knew I wanted to draw Alice and I finally got around to it.

So here’s to the girls who don’t fit into a box – may they be strong and fearless and 100% authentically themselves.
